No. Atlas Pickup Points does not use the Carrier Service API (also known as carrier-calculated shipping, or third-party carrier-calculated shipping rates). Atlas is built on checkout extensibility, which is a different technology. Enabling the Carrier Service API on your store, or upgrading to a Shopify plan that includes it, does not change which Atlas features are available to you.
Where Atlas shows the pickup point selection depends on your Shopify plan:
- In Shopify Checkout: requires Shopify Plus and the Pro (or Enterprise) Atlas plan.
- On the Thank you page: available on any Shopify plan with the Lite Atlas plan. The buyer selects a pickup point immediately after completing the checkout, and Atlas saves the details to the order.

#Two different technologies
Carrier Service API lets an app return shipping rates while the buyer is checking out. Shopify displays the rates as regular shipping options. Carrier apps built on this API typically offer pickup point delivery by returning a separate shipping option for each pickup point near the buyer’s address. The buyer picks one from a short text list, without a map or search. It is an older technology that predates checkout extensibility.
Checkout extensibility is Shopify’s current platform for customizing checkout. It lets an app render its own interface directly inside Shopify Checkout. Atlas uses it to show a pickup point selection with a map and a one-tap list view that matches your checkout branding, supports Shop Pay, and can block checkout when a pickup point is missing.
#Why some carrier apps show pickup points without Shopify Plus
Shopify only allows apps to customize the checkout page on Shopify Plus stores. Carrier apps that show pickup point selection in checkout on other plans are built on the Carrier Service API, with the trade-offs described above. Atlas uses checkout extensibility instead, which is why pickup point selection in Shopify Checkout requires Shopify Plus.

Shopify includes third-party carrier-calculated shipping in the Advanced and Plus plans.
