How to offer Cash on Delivery with pickup points

Cash on Delivery (COD) and pickup point delivery can work together, but two things need attention: not every pickup point accepts COD payments, and you may want to offer COD only for some delivery methods. Depending on your setup, you may need one or both of the patterns below.

#Show only pickup points that accept COD

Some carriers mark COD support per pickup point. Add a filter to your pickup point configuration so buyers can only select points that accept COD:

If your carrier doesn’t expose a COD attribute, contact us and we will check what’s available for your carrier.

#Offer COD only for specific delivery methods

Shopify selects the payment method after the delivery method, so you cannot hide a shipping option based on the chosen payment. Instead, hide the payment method based on the selected shipping option:

  1. Create a dedicated shipping option for COD delivery (for example “DPD Pickup (Cash on Delivery)”) and assign it to a separate pickup point configuration. Since Shopify does not allow charging a separate COD fee, include the fee in the shipping price.
  2. Use a payment customization app from the Shopify App Store to hide the COD payment method unless the COD shipping option is selected (and hide other payment methods when it is).

Splitting the carrier into two configurations also lets you filter each one differently, for example applying the COD attribute filter only to the COD configuration. See Splitting a carrier into separate configurations.
