Atlas Pickup Points works with Shopify’s standard settings, but a few adjustments make pickup point delivery smoother for buyers and your fulfillment. Review the sections that apply to your store.
#If you update the order shipping address, require first and last name
If you enable Update order shipping address with pickup point address in your pickup point configuration, require buyers to enter both their first and last name in checkout. Due to a Shopify bug, apps can’t update an order’s shipping address when the buyer’s last name is missing, so on those orders the shipping address keeps the buyer’s own address instead of the pickup point address.
- Go to Shopify Admin → Settings → Checkout
- Under Customer information, in the Full name section, select Require first and last name
- Click Save
A full name also helps buyers identify themselves when collecting a parcel, so this setting is worth turning on even if you don’t update the shipping address.
#Require a shipping address phone number in checkout
Many carriers that deliver to pickup points require the buyer’s phone number to create a shipping label, and use it to notify the buyer when the parcel arrives at the pickup point. To make sure it’s always present on orders:
- Go to Shopify Admin → Settings → Checkout
- Under Customer information, in the Shipping address phone number section, select Required
- Click Save
#Turn on both parts of checkout blocking
Checkout blocking (Pro and Enterprise plans) stops orders without a pickup point from coming through. It is made up of two settings, and for the best effect we recommend enabling both:
- Block checkout without a selected pickup point in Atlas Pickup Points → Settings under Checkout blocking. It blocks server side, when the buyer tries to complete the checkout.
- Allow app to block checkout in the Pickup point selection block’s settings (see the next section). It blocks client side, in the block itself. If Require a confirmation step is turned on in Shopify Admin → Settings → General, buyers see a Review order page before completing their purchase, and this setting is essential: otherwise, due to a bug in Shopify Checkout, the missing pickup point error doesn’t appear on the Review order page.
#Configure the Pickup point selection block
The Pickup point selection block in checkout (Pro and Enterprise plans) has two settings we recommend turning on. Both are off by default:
- Allow app to block checkout: the client side part of checkout blocking.
- Include block in Shop Pay: if you offer Shop Pay, turn this on. Without it, buyers who check out with Shop Pay don’t see the pickup point selection.
- Go to Shopify Admin → Settings → Checkout → Checkout Editor
- Select the Pickup point selection block
- In the block’s settings, open Checkout behavior
- Turn on Allow app to block checkout, and Include block in Shop Pay if you offer Shop Pay
- Click Save
#Use the one-page checkout layout
For the best pickup point experience, we recommend the one-page checkout layout over the three-page checkout. With one page, buyers enter their address, choose a shipping method, and select a pickup point in one place, without moving between steps.
- Go to Shopify Admin → Settings → Checkout → Checkout Editor
- Open Settings (the gear icon in the left sidebar)
- Under Checkout layout, select One-page checkout
- Click Save
#If you use legacy customer accounts, upgrade to customer accounts
Atlas shows buyers their selected pickup point in their customer account only with the new customer accounts. Legacy customer accounts are not supported, and Shopify has deprecated them.
- Go to Shopify Admin → Settings → Customer accounts
- If you see You’re using legacy customer accounts, click Upgrade now
See Shopify’s guide to upgrading to customer accounts for details. After upgrading, add the Selected pickup point block to the Order status page in the Checkout Editor if it isn’t there already.
#Remove leftover pickup point apps and shipping options
If you previously used another pickup point app or manually created shipping options like “InPost Locker”:
- Remove the old app’s blocks from the checkout configuration in Shopify Admin → Settings → Checkout → Checkout Editor. Another app block that displays a map on the same page can conflict with the pickup point selection.
- Delete shipping options that aren’t assigned to a pickup point configuration, or assign them to one. A buyer who chooses an unassigned option places an order without a pickup point.
#If you use multiple shipping profiles
Add the pickup point shipping option to every shipping profile that contains products you ship to pickup points. When a cart mixes products from a profile without the option, Shopify may not offer pickup point delivery for that cart.
#If your store has multiple locations
Shopify calculates shipping options per fulfillment location. If pickup point shipping options are missing for some orders, verify that the shipping options exist for every location that fulfills those orders, or configure rates to be calculated from your primary location only in Shopify Admin → Settings → Shipping and delivery.
#If you offer accelerated checkouts
On the Pro and Enterprise plans, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal buttons on the product and cart pages do not work with pickup point delivery. We recommend disabling them outside checkout. See How do accelerated checkouts work with pickup points? for details and steps.
#If you translate your store
We recommend not translating shipping option names with a translation app, such as Shopify Translate & Adapt. Instead, manage the names directly in Shopify Admin → Settings → Shipping and delivery. Translated shipping method names can stop matching your pickup point configuration on the Thank you page due to a Shopify bug.
If you already translate them, add each translated shipping option name to Shipping options in the same pickup point configuration. See Pickup point selection does not appear for details.
